Perle — a small life saved by chance

On November 19, 2023, I wasn’t looking for Perle.
That day, I was standing in front of Marrakech Cuir, trying to catch another female cat so I could take her to be sterilized.
I never found her.
So, as I often do, I began putting out food for the cats in the neighborhood.
That’s when Perle appeared.
She came crawling slowly, alongside her mother.
A tiny ball of white fur with big blue eyes — fragile, dirty, and far too young to survive on the street.
A true little pearl, just like her name.
Her condition was very worrying.
She was extremely young, very weak, and something was clearly wrong: her back legs were not functioning normally. She struggled to move, as if she didn’t understand what was happening to her.
I knew I couldn’t leave her there.
Not on that sidewalk, not in that condition, not at that age.
Perle was immediately taken in and brought to the veterinarian.
The diagnosis confirmed our fears: a triple pelvic fracture.
A devastating injury for such a tiny body.
The trauma was most likely caused by someone accidentally stepping on her, or by another street accident — a car, a motorcycle, a fall, or even an act of violence — as sadly happens to so many stray cats.
Today, Perle lives with us.
Yes, she has difficulty walking.
Yes, her body will never be “like before.”
But the most important thing is something else.
The most important thing is that she is alive.
That she is safe.
That she knows warmth, food, care — and above all, love.
Perle plays, watches the world, rests in the sun, and looks at us with that infinite gentleness that only wounded cats seem to carry.
She doesn’t walk like the others…
but she is happy.
And for us, that is everything that matters.
