Cats Rescued from FIP

They were once condemned. Today, they live.
FIP is no longer a death sentence.

Our warriors who survived FIP 🐾🐾

FIP (Feline Infectious Peritonitis) is one of the most feared diseases in cats. For many years, this diagnosis was synonymous with a death sentence. When a veterinarian pronounced those three letters, hope seemed to vanish.

FIP is a complex viral disease that can affect very young cats as well as adults. It can progress rapidly, causing neurological, ocular, or abdominal complications, and severely weakening the body.

But today, one thing has changed: FIP is no longer necessarily fatal.

This antiviral treatment is based in particular on the pioneering work of Dr. Niels Pedersen, an American researcher who dedicated his career to studying FIP. His research paved the way for an effective therapy against a disease once considered incurable.

Thanks to the antiviral treatment GS, which is long, demanding, and costly, it is now possible to save cats affected by FIP. The treatment generally lasts a minimum of 84 days. It requires constant monitoring, regular blood tests, strict discipline, and above all… significant financial resources.

At Cats of Atlas – cat rescue association in Marrakech, we have made a clear choice:
we do not give up.

When one of our cats is diagnosed with FIP, we fight. Even when the odds are low. Even when the costs are high. Even when the road is long.

These 12 cats are living proof that hope exists.

12 lives saved.
12 battles.
12 miracles made possible thanks to determination, dedicated veterinarians, and donors who believed in them.

Each story is different. Some were living on the streets, already weakened and severely ill. Others were staying at the Villa des Chats, our cat refuge in Morocco, when the first symptoms appeared: loss of appetite, persistent fever, extreme fatigue, neurological disorders.

In every case, the decision was the same: start treatment immediately.

The first days are often the most frightening. We watch every breath, every movement. Then, slowly, signs of improvement appear:
– brighter eyes
– a little appetite
– a small desire to play

And that’s when you realize the battle can be won.

But saving a cat with FIP is not just about medical treatment.
It means daily presence.
Sleepless nights.
Sometimes painful injections.
Regular examinations.
Constant uncertainty.

It is also an immense lesson in courage.

The cats you discover on this page are our warriors. They have gone through the most difficult trial and are alive today. They play, they eat, they sleep in the sun, they ask for cuddles. They live.

For a Moroccan cat rescue association like ours, treating FIP represents a considerable financial commitment. The full cost of treatment can reach several hundred or even thousands of euros, depending on the cat’s weight and the required duration.

Without donations, this would simply be impossible.

Each donation helps to:
– fund antiviral GS treatments
– pay for veterinary consultations
– cover blood tests
– ensure post-treatment medical follow-up

These 12 saved lives are not only our victories.
They are yours.

Through these stories, we want to share a clear message:
FIP is no longer an automatic death sentence.
With determination, proper veterinary care, and financial support, lives can be saved.

Our mission at Cats of Atlas is to rescue stray cats in Morocco, give them a second chance, and never abandon those who need help.

These 12 survivors are proof that every life deserves to be defended.

And we will continue to fight.
