Trox’s Story — A Very Long Fight for Life

Some encounters change everything.
Trox’s story began at the Yasmine Veterinary Clinic in Marrakech.

When I met him, Trox was hospitalized and seriously ill. The veterinarians had diagnosed FIP (Feline Infectious Peritonitis), a disease that for a long time was considered almost always fatal for cats.

But the hardest part was not only the illness.

Because of the extremely high cost of treatment and the uncertain prognosis, Trox’s owner simply abandoned him at the clinic, leaving him there, condemned to die.

At that very moment, I had just finished treating Aladin, another cat we had rescued from FIP. I still had a few vials of GS, the medication used to treat this disease.

I could not leave Trox alone to face this situation.

So I offered the clinic to take responsibility for his hospitalization and all treatment costs: the GS medication and the daily injections.

84 Days of Fighting

Trox remained hospitalized for 84 days at the clinic.

For 84 consecutive days, he received a daily injection of GS, calculated according to the treatment formula used for the wet form of FIP (base 6, used as the reference for calculating the milliliters administered).

Every day mattered.
Every injection was another chance.

During these three months, we also tried to find his owner.
The clinic called, sent messages… but no one ever responded.

Trox had been abandoned.

After three months of hospitalization and 84 days of treatment, I finally decided to bring him home.

An Unexpected Relapse

When Trox left the clinic, he was still not truly well.

He was very thin and sad, still had a fever, and barely ate. I simply hoped that time, calm, and care would help him recover.

But about two weeks after the end of the treatment, his condition suddenly worsened.

Trox began to show signs of partial paralysis.

At that moment, I did not yet understand what was happening.
I did not know that we were facing a relapse of FIP in its neurological form.

I immediately hospitalized him again at Yasmine Clinic.

Three days later, the situation became critical.

Trox fell into a coma.

His body temperature dropped to 33°C.

An Urgent Decision

Faced with this situation, I made a decision:
to restart GS treatment a second time, this time using the treatment formula adapted to the neurological form of FIP (base 15, used as the reference for calculating the milliliters administered).

October 8, 2022 – 11:00 a.m.
Trox received the first injection using this new treatment base.

A few hours later, something incredible happened.

  • 4:00 p.m. — his temperature rose to 38°C
  • 8:00 p.m. — it began to fall again toward 36°C

I did not want to take any risks.

So that evening I administered an additional half dose to stabilize the situation. A temporary adjustment of the protocol was made that same evening.

That day, Trox received a total equivalent of base 23 of GS in a single day.

And little by little…

Trox began to come back.

He gradually emerged from the coma.

The Second Battle

For one week, we continued the treatment at base 23 per day.

Then we gradually reduced the additional dose to return to base 15 per day.

After two weeks of injections, we were able to switch to GS tablets at base 15.

Just like the first treatment, the total duration was again 84 days.

This time, starting from the third week, Trox was able to continue his treatment at home, in a calm environment and surrounded by care and attention.

An Incredible Victory

Little by little, Trox regained his strength.

He began to eat again.
To move again.
To live again.

Today, Trox is doing well.

His story is exceptional:
he is probably the first cat in Morocco to have undergone two full 84-day GS treatments and survived.

Trox proves that even in the most desperate situations, there is always a chance — if someone decides to fight for them.

Trox
First meeting: May 25, 2022
Diagnosis: Wet FIP
Abandoned at the clinic by his owner.

Start of treatment with GS — wet form of FIP, base 6. The cat is visibly improving.

End of treatment: 84 days of GS injections, base 6. Trox is at home, but his condition is still fragile.

Two weeks after the first GS treatment: relapse into neurological FIP, hospitalization, coma…

Trox after two GS treatments: two full courses of 84 days (first at base 6 for the wet form; second at base 15 for the neurological form).

Thanks to your support, we can continue giving this chance to other cats like Trox.
